Kenya  is about to expand the country's fiber optic coverage with an additional 1,600km of fiber under phase two of its National Optic Fiber Broadband Infrastructure project (NOFBI). Phase two of NOFBI will start in July, according to the Information and   Communication Technology Authority.

    Phase 2 is funded through a $172.5 million loan from EXIM Bank of China, via a concessional Government to Government loan agreement. China's High Technologies is the project contractor, delivering from a tried-and-tested business model. 

   About  5,300 km of fiber optic cable (OPGW) has been laid out since 2012, connecting 34 counties in Kenya. Phase two of the project is expected to connect all 47 counties with completion by 2018.
