Underground power cable laid at Arpora-Nagoa
CALANGUTE: Power minister Milind Naik 'charged' the newly-laid 11 kv underground electricity cable in Arpora-Nagoa on Wednesday evening. Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, sarpanch Sushma Nagvekar and other panchas were also present at the function held at the Arpora market junction.
With the commissioning of the underground cable, Naik said the frequent power shutdowns will reduce by 90%, adding that underground cabling would be a state-wide feature soon. Work on the cabling started in February, 2013, with the laying of the 20km long undergroud power cable connecting 29 transformers costing a sum of 6.5 crore.
MLA Lobo said they had to face a lot of criticism during the digging phase of the cabling project, but that they were able to complete it successfully. Lobo said they had to seek police protection last week to complete the cabling work, as a local panch attempted to obstruct the works.
